Clinical Resources

The School of Law offers more than 15 clinical and experiential learning programs, many of which serve the local, regional, and state-wide citizens. If you are a member of the public, you can use this list of resources to explore the public-facing services of our clinical programs that may fit your needs. Clinics are attorney and faculty directed, and offer valuable learning opportunities for law school students to practice in their area of interest.

First Amendment Clinic
Defending and advancing freedoms of speech, press, assembly and petition through direct client representation and advocacy. This clinic serves as both an educational resource to the community and can provide legal services to individuals and organizations. Get in touch via their web contact form.
Wilbanks Child Endangerment and Sexual Exploitation Clinic
The first of its kind in the nation, this clinic represents survivors of child sexual abuse in civil litigation and juvenile court dependency matters. The clinic not only provides direct representation to survivors, but also serves as a teaching center as part of the law school. Explore their site or contact at 706-227-5421.
Jane W. Wilson Family Justice Clinic
The Jane W. Wilson Family Justice Clinic provides survivors of domestic violence with direct representation as well as legal and extra-legal support. The Wilson Family Justice Clinic works cooperatively with courts, the prosecution and criminal defense bars, social service agencies, private attorneys and others to provide survivors with holistic solutions to domestic violence-related issues.
Community Health Law Partnership Clinic (HeLP)
Community HeLP is an in-house legal services clinic in which law students advocate on behalf of low-income clients with a variety of health-harming legal needs. In recent years the clinic’s docket has focused primarily on helping community members in the Athens area with immigration, access to food stamps, and other benefits. Students have also regularly engaged in case-work involving disability rights, advanced care directives, housing, and other issues.
Veterans Legal Clinic
The Veterans Legal Clinic serves veterans and their dependents, helping them to obtain the benefits they have earned through service to our country. At a minimum, the clinic helps its clients with benefits from the Veterans’ Administration and from the Social Security Administration. The clinic also reaches out to veterans in Athens and the surrounding 15 counties to connect: with silent veterans, who may lack access to legal or other services; vulnerable veterans, who may face special barriers to obtaining or keeping benefits; and low-income veterans.
