The Davenport-Benham Black Law Students Association and the Law Library are excited to announce our One Read inspired by the Community Conversations held over the summer. Our goals are to continue to bring our community together in constructive dialogue, further our knowledge of and exposure to social justice issues, and deepen our understanding of the importance of the legal profession’s role in society. We invite members of the law school community to join us this fall semester as we read together We Shall Not be Moved: The Desegregation of the University of Georgia, by author Robert A. Pratt, a UGA history professor. Our conversations will lead up to the 60th anniversary of desegregation at UGA to commemorate this milestone.
Interested in joining the One Read? The Law Library is pleased to offer free, unlimited digital access to our One Read selection through ProQuest for law students, faculty, and staff. The book is also available for purchase from Amazon, to check out in print from the Law Library and the Main Library, and digitally available through the UGA Press Georgia Open Stacks. UGA Press offers 40% off books for UGA students, faculty, and staff. Please email Geraldine Kalim, Student Services Librarian, at gkalim@uga.edu to access the promo code.
The following titles were pulled from the ALA Reading for Change: Booklist-Recommended Antiracism Titles and Ibram X. Kendi's "An Antiracism Reading List" in the NYT along with additional titles recommended as they relate to social justice topics including racism, classism, policing, and other topics. These titles are available through either our Law Library or UGA's Main Library catalogs. Recommend a book title to add to this list.
