Judge B. Avant Edenfield
Georgia Law's Alexander Campbell King Law Library oversaw the preservation of a collection of United States Reports and other legal references. The project was funded by the A.S. Mitchell Foundation, on the board of which alumni Kenneth G. Vinson (J.D.'71) and Benjamin J. Vinson (J.D.'02) serve. The books, which include Supreme Court decisions from the 1880s to the 1920s, were badly damaged in a South Georgia fire and required preservation by conservators. The restored collection was presented to the law school community during Preservation Week 2016 in honor of the late Judge B. Avant Edenfield (J.D.'58), who served in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia.
The American Library Association sponsors the annual Preservation Week to encourage libraries and other institutions to connect our communities through events, activities, and resources that highlight what we can do, individually and together, to preserve our personal and shared collections.
